Blow the Whistle: A look at episodes 5-8 of “Euphoria”
Friday Sep 13, 2019
Friday Sep 13, 2019
Today, we welcome the "Bedazzled" return of our moderator Mel as we discuss the final episodes of "Euphoria" season 1.
Nate is Ted Bundy and the Sponge Bob “Ima Head Out” meme embodied. We wondered where's SimpliSafe when you need it. Lexi is the hero you didn't know you needed and MiMi and Mel get honest about how anxiety and depression have affected their lives.
Our dessert today is from Sweet Cheats in Cabbagetown, Atlanta, GA.

If You Like Pina Coladas: A look at episodes 1-4 of "Euphoria"
Thursday Sep 05, 2019
Thursday Sep 05, 2019
FIRST, please forgive our sound being a bit off this episode. We had to work from the backup recording this week, but we made it through. Mel was off this episode as we dive into the first four episodes of HBO's "Euphoria".
We talk our enjoyment of the initial episodes, favorite characters, how we relate to them, how we fear for the youth and the overall great storytelling of the show.

The Misadventures of the "Tepid Old Lady Summer" (shout out Meg thee Stallion)
Wednesday Aug 21, 2019
Wednesday Aug 21, 2019
We're back from a little summer hiatus and had a LOT of catching up to do!
We break down what we've been doing over the break and help Mel understand what a "Hot Girl Summer" is. We briefly talk new music; dabble in this Popeye's chicken sandwich debate; shout out "The Six" and our friends north of the border in general; and MiMi confuses a health trend for Flinstones lingerie (just go with it).
Most importantly, we touch on what everyone's been watching; “Black Lady Sketch Show”, “The Boys”, “Stranger Things Season 3”, “Mindhunter”, “Euphoria” (Give Zendaya ALL HER THINGS), "Big Little Lies Season 3", "Years and Years", “Queen Sugar” (the show we all should be watching but aren’t), and what strain of virgin blood Angela Bassett, Bianca Lawson and Paul Rudd are bathing in to keep their youthful looks.
We also do a couple 90s throwback show references that solidifies our place in "middle-age-dom".

Bonus Episode: Jordan Peele Reminds "Us", That We Ain't, #%$@
Wednesday Jun 19, 2019
Wednesday Jun 19, 2019
This week, we have a REALLY quick bonus episode for you before we take a couple of weeks off and get ready for "Stranger Things" Season 3! But today, we give our takes on the movie "Us" which we didn't get a chance to review previously. Emotions ranged from initially hating it to loving it to adoring Jordan Peele to feeling gross about ourselves after watching it. Also, Mel confesses to loving Peele's other film "Keanu" and watching nearly every day. Bless her heart lol.

Black Mirror S5 was good but "Striking Vipers" Gave Us All 'Feelings'
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
In today's episode, we give our takes on Black Mirror, Season 5. Overall, good per usual, but episode 1, "Striking Vipers" was the standout. It had the whole crew in their thoughts about what it expressed on sexuality, black masculinity, gender, attraction and relationships. The season had us wondering if you can catch a virtual reality STD; discussing our addictions to social media; and Mel telling us about that one time when she kicked that untrustworthy chick “Alexa” out her house. Mel and MiMi prove once more you never get too old to be immature about "peen" and Marcus wants to make a correction from last week.

'Ma' The 'Mommie Dearest' We Didn't Want & the BRILLIANCE of "When They See Us"
Wednesday Jun 05, 2019
Wednesday Jun 05, 2019
In today's episode, we discuss the movie "Ma" and the Netflix series "When They See Us". "Ma" ended up being "Carrie" but WITHOUT the logic, great narrative and with tons of plotholes (but "crazy" Octavia was fun to watch). Also, Ava DuVernay's "When They See Us" is brilliant with superb acting all around even though it is a story that is hard to watch. And, the irony that Felicity Huffman plays Linda Fairstein. No desserts today, but want to shout out Raymond Santana's clothing line @parkmadisonNYC

Our GoT Watch Has Ended: Final Thoughts on the Show and the Documentary
Wednesday May 29, 2019
Wednesday May 29, 2019
In today's episode, we discuss the 2-hour HBO documentary on Game of Thrones that just aired; how the actor who played the Night King was "clout chasing"; and how the documentary was about 1.5 hours longer than it should've been. We also discuss the overall social implications of how the story ended; how it compares to other more critically acclaimed shows; and how it was a cultural event that brought many people together. We also think George R.R. Martin should drop his final books like Beyonce albums. Please visit us at @4layeredtakes and don’t forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes and Google Play!

Eight Years of Foreplay, Zero Climax: How To Edge Your Dragon
Tuesday May 21, 2019
Tuesday May 21, 2019
In today's episode, we talk the final episode EVER of Game of Thrones :(. The discussion was lively. We talked about things we liked and ALL the things we didn't. Sweet Robin's Glow up was amazing. Yara vs. Arya was the fight we all deserved instead of Jamie/Euron. Jon Snow could learn from George W. Bush and what Brienne ACTUALLY wrote on Jamie's King's Guard page. The Golden Company is the "Fyre Festival" of Westeros & other puns
Tuesday May 14, 2019
Tuesday May 14, 2019
In today's episode, we talk episode 5, season 8 of Game of Thrones, "The Bells". Did the Golden Company even "pinch the bish"? KeKe still doesn’t think Daenarys is mad. We ask if this is what would happen in "Madea goes to Westeros"? And we also believe Brienne is somewhere listening to “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”. We also ponder on how many shows actually had good final seasons. Today's dessert is from Sweet Stack Creamery!
